Pountney & Co. "Bristol Mandarin" Plates
Pountney & Co. "Bristol Mandarin" Plates
This lovelyoval dish comes from the Bristol Pottery of Pountney & Co Ltd and features a blue and white design called Mandarin. Original gold trim has mostly rubbed off but the gold accents of the design, itself, catch the light in the most charming way.
Pountney's had several partnerships during the 18th and 19th centuries and were known as "The Bristol Potters." The backstamp is in blue and has a triangle with "POUNTNEY & CO LTD BRISTOL Mandarin PATTERN" around the edge with crossed swords and "17" and "50" on either side. The triangular mark was Introduced in 1900. This piece is right around 100 years old!
Condition is not perfect. There is wear commensurate with age. As mentioned above, the gold trim has mostly worn off and the edges have some discoloration.
Despite its age, this dish is a lovely addition to any collection and would make a great display piece.
